The Hospital Doctors Union has issued the following response to the Autumn Budget:
Hospital Doctors Union President Dr Claudia Paoloni said: “The additional funding announced today by the Chancellor to help with winter pressures is welcome. Hospital doctors face increasing demands, and the support will ease pressure for some doctors.
However, we are concerned the government does not fully recognise the scale of the challenges faced by hospital doctors. Corridor care is becoming more widespread, and many doctors’ pay remains below 2008/09 levels.
In his statement, the Chancellor called this a budget for workers. However, there was little support for NHS workers.
News that the health service is becoming less reliant on agency staffing is welcome. However, a substantive workforce plan remains absent. Our members expect more. HDU will continue to advocate for support that allows hospital doctors to deliver safe and effective patient care.”
