Mental Health First Aiders here to help members

HCSA has demonstrated its commitment to improving mental health in the workplace by offering ongoing training to staff.

Our National Officers, who have direct responsibility for advising members, are now qualified as Mental Health First Aiders (MHFAs).

The role of an MHFA is to be a point of contact for an employee who is experiencing emotional distress or a mental health issue.

HCSA President, Dr Claudia Paoloni, said: “In these exceptionally difficult times of Covid-19 we have seen the negative impact that work and external stresses can directly have on individual wellbeing.

“We must be able to recognise tell-tale changes in our colleagues and members to be able to identify those individuals who might need help, and be able to take the appropriate actions to offer support. This training is vital for this.

“As President, I am proud of the commitment and exceptional enthusiasm of our staff who have taken up this training and engagement going forward.”

An MHFA can provide a wide range of support, from an initial conversation through to assisting a member in getting appropriate professional help.
